Orgasmic Life

A friend and I were discussing living life, really living life based on one's passions. She began exploring a change in her career (to one that suited her perfectly) and it was like an explosion went off! So many ideas ran through her mind she couldn't speak them fast enough. It was like she had tapped into the energy source within her core and it resulted in an eruption of joy, happiness, and inspiration. I knew she was on her way when she made this beautiful statement, "I don't want to just survive life. I want to live an orgasmic life." That, my friends is what I aspire to do for you: show you how to live your orgasmic life.

In case you haven't been watching Oprah's new shows, "The Next Chapter" or "Super Soul Sunday," or reading the tweets, ezines, magazine articles (Time), books, or even watching the daily news... you should know... life as we knew it is evolving into a brand new way of life. For those of you who have put a lot of time, money, and energy into the old way of life, this is either very bad news or the notion thrills you because it means you will soon be free of your current way of life. If it feels like bad news, work through the array of feelings that arise out of this notion so you can get to your orgasmic life!

The old way of life was about (among other things) making money. Some wanted enough to survive, some wanted to be wealthy. Some became what their parents told them to become. Some inherited their way of life. Others rebelled and worked their way up through the ranks. There are many, many other scenarios. When you ask someone what it means (to them) to be successful you would be surprised at the varied responses.

Think about it. 30+ years ago our parents were given pensions and retirement packages. Today, we are very lucky if we get a 5% match in our 401k. Employees used to work at 1 or 2 companies in a lifetime. Today, employees might work at 1 or 2 companies in a decade (or less). Then there are the medical premiums whose cost used to be largely absorbed (as a tax write-off) by employers. Today, an employee with a family pays most of the cost of their premium while their raises are frozen, or increases are given at much lower percentages than they were in the past. The only loyalty remaining in the marketplace is that of the employer to their bottom line.

The good news is, the new way of life is based on who you really are - who you were created to be. You were born with a perfect and wonderful purpose that will serve your own needs as well as the needs of those around you. Resisting what you were created to be is a little like locking yourself in your bedroom with the drapes drawn instead of going outside to take in a gorgeous day...

My question to you is, are you locked into your life? Are you just trying to "last through retirement"? No matter your age or history, every day is a brand new day.

5 Steps To Find (At Least A Hint Of) Your Purpose

1. Identify what you enjoy doing - now or ever. Go back in your mind to a time when you could do something for hours and completely lose track of time, maybe even forget to eat! You are completely energized when you did/do this. What is it? Write your thoughts down.
2. What things do you do in every job you have ever had, even if you work in the home (moms), that you can't help but do because they come as natural as breathing to you? Write these down.
3. Reflect on activities that have left you feeling content, satisfied, peaceful. Write them down.
4. Write a description of what makes you happy and energizes you, in the voice of a long-time friend or family member that knows you very well. Any surprises?
5. Now, without discounting anything you wrote down, review your answers to the first 4 questions and identify the themes. Take a moment to acknowledge what your life has been trying to tell you. Finally, play your life forward in your mind (like a movie). What changes can you make in your life to move your life forward? Write your thoughts down.
